Cindy Persinger is an associate professor of art history in the Department of Communication, Design, and Culture at California University of Pennsylvania. She has also taught at the University of Pittsburgh, Duquesne University, and West Virginia University. Her research focuses on the history of art history, especially Meyer Schapiro, and modern and contemporary art and theory. Since arriving at Cal U in 2010, Persinger has worked to resolve what she sees as a commonly held division between teaching, research, and service in art history. Her interest in theorizing and practicing a socially engaged art history is related to these concerns.
