Christina M. Spiker

Christina M. Spiker is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Art History at St. Catherine University in St. Paul, Minnesota. She specializes in modern Japanese art and visual culture, and teaches courses in survey-level art history, as well as electives in the traditional arts of Asia and contemporary Japanese visual culture. She has presented and published on the photography and illustration of the indigenous Ainu people in Japan in the late nineteenth century, and has expanded her research to include more contemporary media, such as animation and video games; a vein of scholarship most influenced by her art history students. She seeks to bring an art historian’s toolkit to the analysis and interpretation of visual representation and architecture in gaming, especially with regards to gender and race.
