   excellent topic and cross reference to excavations and texts, but pouring over these very formal reliefs of the Assyrina kings is deadening as they are intended to be didactic, static and self glorifying.. the use of the space and the divine guardinas Lamassu plus texts glorifying the ruler to me reveal the clever Assyrian use of palace art and architecture to dominate and control the viewer/visitor — sacred kingship enforced by divine guardian colossoi should perhaps cause us to test our own values, was the Assyrian king worthy of such palaces, bombast to intimidate, art to control and force homage and obedience?
